15 Flashbacks of Driving with Dad – A Facebook Video

Editor’s Note: Faces of GM is designed to share the stories of the people behind the brands that make up General Motors.  With the launch of a newly designed FacesofGM.com, we’ve decided that our customers should be included in people we profile in these pages. Our latest post profiles some of our customer’s comments via our Facebook page.

Just before Father’s Day, we asked our fans on the General Motors’ Facebook page what their favorite memories of driving with their Dads were. We were so impressed with the responses that we put together a video montage of some of the comments and posted it on Facebook.

Fans responded so well to the video that we wanted to feature it as the first post of the new Faces of GM site.  Enjoy!

This video brought tears to my eyes, and all my great car memories with my dad came rushing back:

Our conversations alone when he drove me here and there.

Dad negotiating the price of my first new (used) car (a sky blue 1972 Plymouth Duster). He whispered, “I know you like the car, but please don’t say anything when I’m talking money with this guy.”

My dad teaching me how to drive in his Chevrolet Citation – “Watch the white walls when you’re parking!” And when we’d return home how he’d pop Alkaselter and tell my mom not to ask.

Teaching me how to change the oil and rotate my tires when I was 16. The following week the cutest high school jock had a flat in the school parking lot. Guess who came to his rescue and helped him change his tire? A priceless education!

How to fill my car with gas – righty tightey; lefty loosey.

How he wasn’t too mad the first time I drove into the garage and pushed the garbage cans into the drywall leaving quite a dent (oops). Later that day he hung a ping-pong ball from the ceiling so I knew to stop when it hit the windshield!

Him lovingly washing and waxing his cars on summer weekends, generally Oldsmobile station wagons, while listening to Ernie Harwell and Tigers baseball.

His overall pride at being a GM engineer, and how proud he was when I was hired into his beloved company.

    My dad rocks!
