Hundreds of thousands of people have visited the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington, D.C. since it was opened to the public in August. However, few of those visitors can say they personally knew him. Author Janet Langhart Cohen is one of the few who knew the great civil rights leader from his visits to Chicago. She attended the Chevrolet Table of Brotherhood discussion in Washington because she wanted to testify on behalf of Dr. King and because she wanted to show her gratitude for General Motors’ support of the MLK Memorial project.
