Akersons anniversary present benefits Habitat for Humanity
GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson and his wife Karin recently made a large, personal donation to Habitat for Humanity Detroit. The Akersons believe Habitat for Humanity builds much more than houses. It builds communities. They are hoping their contribution attracts others to donate more money and volunteer time to help Habitat build a strong America.

GM Social Media Strategist Rebecca Harris, Ph.D., was the keynote speaker at the Spice It Up! Technology Conference this year. The conference is an annual event for teachers in the Walled Lake, Mich. school district and Dr. Harris helped them understand how social media can help them communicate with students and parents in the school district.

Living next to an auto plant may seem like a less-than-ideal situation, but the Parkview neighborhood in Arlington, Texas is being rejuvenated, thanks in part to the GM plant next door. The GM Foundation donated money to the Parkview Neighborhood Association to be used for improvement and/or development in the area. The neighbors say it’s just the latest link drawing the community and the company closer together.

George Baker realized when he was young, “I wanted to be amongst heroes.” He graduated from West Point, served in the military, and then joined General Motors.
